Especially for people at acute nutritional risk due to life-threatening illness, MANNA (Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance) prepares and delivers delicious nourishing meals and counsel, empowering individuals to battle illness and improve their quality of life

On Monday March 2, 2015, The Jack Barry Group (Jack Barry, Alex Nelson and Drew Jackson) visited Manna to volunteer for a few hours and learn about the work that MANNA performs for the Philadelphia area.

MANNA = Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance 

is located at 2323 Ranstead Street (between 23/24th and Market/Chestnut Sts.) and delivers three meals a day…seven days a week…52 weeks a year.

My friend, Rob Saxon (Director External Affairs) for those who know him, is MANNA's biggest cheerleader. If I could hire this guy to be my PR guy I would, all he talks about is MANNA MANNA MANNA. His passion for what MANNA does is evident and say hi when you see him out and about because this guy gets around. 

We arrived and were greeted by the always cheerful Glenda Cooke, Volunteer Services, this lady knows how to treat people! She made us feel so welcome as soon as we walked in the door. Then we were handed over to Michael Rowlands, Community Engagement Coordinator.  This guy explained, in laymans terms, what MANNA does and  gave us a quick tour and history of MANNA and got us ready to go to work.  He is another guy you will see out and about doing the good work, so say hi when you see him! The entire staff and regular volunteers, like Dominic Dorazio, who has been volunteering  a few days a week for over 20 years, made us feel comfortable and at ease. We made some applebutter and hummus muffins then did "turn out."  This is where the meals are actually placed into containers and vacuum sealed. After that they are refrigerated or frozen and sent to the clients. Our team felt like we really made a difference in the community at large.
